Agro Amazônia, a subsidiary company of Sumitomo Corporation, reached the historic milestone of R$1 billion in revenue in soybean seeds. The record, recorded between August and November this year, represents an increase of 19% compared to the same period in 2022. The result is the result of investment in technology and partnerships for the construction of two soybean seed platforms, which are among the most adapted for the Cerrado biome available on the market (Dagma and DonMario).

Dagma, Agro Amazônia's own brand, accounts for 25% of the company's seed segment, while Don Mario represents 45%. Both stand out in the states where Agro Amazônia is present. "It is important to highlight that these expressive results were achieved even in a challenging period, marked by adverse weather conditions, with a significant lack of rain", explains Viumar Joenck, seed director at Agro Amazônia.

It is a logistical challenge to move such a large volume of seeds in a short period - in the Midwest, soybean planting takes place from September to December. “Soybeans are living organisms, which breathe and their quality is affected by environmental factors such as temperature and humidity. The shelf life of high quality, which we define here as vigor, and which is crucial for us, is reduced when seeds remain idle for a long time on the farmer's property in an inhospitable environment, suffering impacts from high temperatures. The challenge is to deliver them at the right time. If delivered too early, quality is compromised; if delivered too late, there is logistical chaos, as everyone in the Cerrado plants practically at the same time, starting in mid-September,” says Joenck.

In addition to seeds, Agro Amazônia also distributes fertilizers, pesticides, fertilizers, soil improvers, among other products. The expectation is to reach revenues of R$6 billion in 2023, representing an increase of 7,1% compared to the previous year. It currently has 64 stores spread across nine Brazilian states and there are plans to establish 90 branches by 2025. The company also plans to invest R$150 million in the construction of its first seed processing industry.
