The area sown with corn in Rio Grande do Sul evolved little compared to the previous period, reaching 89% sown. Producers in Rio Grande do Sul still prioritize the implementation of soybean cultivation, and some of them only intend to resume planting corn in the second season, starting in January. According to Emater/RS, 38% of corn crops are in grain filling and 10% are in maturation.
Yield projections are variable: part of the crops maintain their initial potential and another part is subject to reductions due to the incidence of pests, diseases and/or damage resulting from climatic phenomena throughout the development cycle.
Na soybean, the environmental conditions of recent periods have led to significant progress in sowing in a large part of the State, despite some more pronounced restrictions in the South Region, due to the higher volume of precipitation. The sown area reached 90%, partially recovering the delay caused by adverse conditions of excessive rainfall and high soil humidity. The development of the crop is satisfactory, especially in crops sown from 15/11 onwards, in which the plants show vigorous growth and a more robust structure, with a shorter distance between trefoils and thicker stems. The crops sown at the beginning of the Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning (Zarc) period, between 20/10 and 10/11, recovered well, and well-developed new leaves were emitted.
Corn silage - the planted area remains at around two thirds of the planned area. The main activity carried out is cutting to make whole plant silage. In the administrative region of Emater/RS of Frederico Westphalen, 20% of the harvest was carried out, and these portions have lower than expected productivity due to losses of leaf area, caused by diseases and lodging. In Ijuí, harvesting began in the fields in the municipalities to the north of the region, where sowing is earlier. These areas have a substantial volume of green mass and grains, which will result in high quality silage.
Beans 1st harvest - the area cultivated in RS underwent little change due to the scaling of production and the fact that sowing is still incipient in Campos de Cima da Serra, which is the largest producer in the State, as well as where cultivation is carried out in just one cycle . In the Santa Maria region, the planted area exceeded 85%, and the perspective is that new plantings will only occur during the off-season, between January and February 2024. The prolonged rainy period and high humidity interfere with disease management, favoring the emergence of fungal diseases. The majority of crops are in the flowering and grain filling phases, and harvesting has begun in areas planted earlier.
Rice - sowing was faster due to improved environmental conditions. In the Southern Region of the State, sowing has been completed, and is approaching completion in the Western Region. In the Central region, there are slightly longer delays. The first areas implemented in October are reaching the panicle differentiation phase, and expectations are high for ideal days of solar radiation availability to meet the current needs of the crop. In the administrative region of Emater/RS de Pelotas, sowing was completed throughout the region, and crop development is considered normal for the time. Sunny days and rising temperatures significantly benefited plant growth.
