COFCO International announced an initiative to promote family farming in Brazil with an investment of more than R$1,9 million destined for the Coopapi, Cooperxique and Cooppotengi cooperatives. In total, the company will purchase 255 tons of raw cotton for harvesting between June and October, impacting 452 families in Rio Grande do Norte. All cooperatives have female leadership, a determining factor in choosing COFCO in the region, as a way of supporting the expansion of women in these spaces.

The action was mediated by the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA), and aims to stimulate the socioeconomic inclusion of family farming in the production chain, as established by Ordinance 280/2022 and the Interministerial Ordinance. In addition to the investment, COFCO will offer technical assistance and rural extension to family farmers involved in raw cotton production.

The signing of the contract took place at the launch event of Coopera Mais Brasil, aimed at strengthening cooperativism, associations and solidarity enterprises in family farming in Brazil, on April 22nd. The meeting was attended by 450 cooperatives from all regions of the country.
