UFSM opens Advanced Farm 360 Technology Room

Space created in partnership with Massey Ferguson will boost the development of knowledge in precision agriculture and benefit 600 students per year

The Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) opens, on April 11th, the Advanced Farm 360 Technology Room, in partnership with Massey Ferguson, a reference in the Brazilian agricultural market. The site is based in the Agricultural Area of ​​the UFSM Polytechnic College, in Santa Maria (RS).

“It will be a space dedicated to the development of knowledge and advanced practices in the area, with the aim of boosting precision agriculture and technology applied to the field. The partnership between UFSM and Massey Ferguson represents a commitment to the future of the sector, by investing in the training of qualified professionals and research into new technologies”, explains Rodrigo Carmo Cardoso, Product Marketing Coordinator at Massey Ferguson.

Luciano Paes, professor at the UFSM Polytechnic College and coordinator of the Advanced Farm 360 project, highlights that the Technology Room is an important milestone for the University's Polytechnic College, consolidating the institution as a reference in the training of professionals in the area of ​​Precision Agriculture. “The space will certainly enhance the practical activities of the courses currently offered by the institution, in addition to enabling the future offering of training courses for professionals who already work in the area, such as agricultural machinery operators, for example. Not to mention the research, extension and innovation activities that are inherent to teaching activities”, he says. 

The location will host practical classes in various disciplines, including Precision Agriculture, Electronics Embedded in Agricultural Machines, Agricultural Mechanization, Electrotechnics, Digital Agriculture, Summer Crops and Winter Crops. Aimed at students of the Precision Agriculture Technician, Agriculture Technician, Agricultural Technician and Professional Master's in Precision Agriculture courses, the initiative will benefit approximately 600 students per year.

Professional training courses for agricultural machinery operators will also be offered in the Advanced Farm 360 Technology Room, focused on Agriculture 4.0 technologies.

Field Day

The inauguration of the space will also feature a Summer Cultures Field Day, which will take place from 14pm to 17pm. The event will highlight the use of technologies embedded in agricultural machinery to optimize planting, spraying and harvesting operations. 

During the period, the results of work carried out by university students will be presented, in addition to the sharing of knowledge and the latest news in precision agriculture.
