Nunhems opens Tomato Experience Center in the Netherlands

The Experience Center brings together more than 150 tomato varieties; highlighting technological innovations resistant to Rugoso Virus (ToBRFV)

Nunhems, BASF's seed and vegetable brand, has officially opened its Tomato Experience Center in Kwintsheul, near The Hague, in the Netherlands. The new structure has a greenhouse with more than 150 varieties resistant to Rugoso Virus (ToBRFV). In addition to the greenhouse, the place has facilities to display resistant varieties and so that customers can talk about their needs, learn about the brand's innovations and trends in tomato cultivation.

Customers and producers will be able to explore the facilities, which provide an immersive experience, as visitors will be able to try the varieties first-hand. Partner retailers, industry experts, agricultural consultants and investors are also invited to visit the site.

Winning the battle against Rugoso Virus with resistant varieties

“Tomato cultivation is very important for the agricultural sector, because it is one of the most prominent crops in the world. Since the emergence of Rugoso Virus, BASF has been leading the search for solutions to win the battle against the virus. So far, there are more than 25 varieties resistant to ToBRFV, offering solutions to tomato growers around the world”, says Silvia Cifre, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at BASF.

“Today, we are very proud to open the doors of our Tomato Experience Center. BASF has been operating in the tomato seed sector for over 50 years and, with this innovative center, we can show how our portfolio and cultivation technology has evolved. In this inspiring environment, we will deepen our partnerships with all employees in our value chain”, he comments.

In addition to the greenhouses and meeting opportunities, a detailed collection of data with information about cultivation, production statistics, shelf life, weight and much more is also available at the Center. All with the aim of providing customers with valuable information to make informed decisions.

The Nunhems Tomato Experience Center is located in Westland, on the premises of De Bakker, a major tomato producing partner in the region and member of the Producers Association.
