Bayer and Microsoft announce new data connectors at Agritechnica 2023

Idea consists of "secure and compatible" data exchange; Microsoft Azure Data Manager industry platform expands as more companies bring solutions

Bayer announced at Agritechnica in Germany an update on strategic collaboration with Microsoft: new data connectors enable "secure and compliant" exchange between Climate FieldView and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) via the "Microsoft Azure Data Manager" platform for Agriculture".

Following the preliminary launch of Bayer AgPowered Services on the platform earlier this year, Leaf Agriculture now brings "a solution to further improve accessibility to agricultural machinery data", and OneSoil provides "new solutions for in-season crop identification." .

“Agricultural data is nothing new, but the technology has evolved tremendously, and so must the ways in which farmers are able to collect, share and benefit from the data they generate on the farm,” said Jeremy Williams (pictured, at right), head of Bayer's Climate LLC and Digital Farming for Crop Science Division.

“Our industry can now unite around ready-made infrastructure, data connectors and capabilities that can further harness the potential of digital agricultural solutions and the value we can bring to customers, such as the ability to link into sustainability programs through better connectivity and data. interoperability.”

Once initiated by a farmer, business customers across the agri-food value chain, such as retailers, financial institutions and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies, can now connect and automatically synchronize crop planting, application and harvesting activity files. FieldView, allowing data exchange between solutions created in Azure Data Manager.

One of agriculture's biggest technological challenges is the lack of data interoperability. Farmers have seen advances in the ability to connect data across platforms on the farm, but solutions that allow them to connect to services and opportunities outside the farm have been largely unavailable. Companies and organizations that support agriculture and related industries also lack the necessary infrastructure and capabilities to better serve their customers.

In addition to FieldView connectivity enabled by Sonata Software, Bayer is also developing new AgPowered services that enable machine data connectivity with leading OEMs including Stara, Topcon and Trimble. Enterprise users of Azure Data Manager will have an integrated and complete solution to securely and compliantly connect to the industry's leading agricultural machinery data sources, thereby reducing the cost of technical investment that companies face today.

Additionally, organizations can rely on the same system to connect to additional data sources, such as weather and imagery, and incorporate data-driven insights and recommendations from the AgPowered suite of services into their customer-facing solutions. Azure Data Manager gives companies a place to connect to agricultural machinery data, weather, imagery, and insights from AgPowered Services.
