Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) announced the first shipment of fully traceable soybeans from the United States to Europe. This step is part of a broader program that aims to expand these capabilities to other areas of North America in the 2024 growing season. The company aims to create 100% deforestation-free supply chains by 2025.

Matt Hopkins, vice president of ADM, cited the company's commitment to keeping global markets open for U.S. agricultural products. The traceable soy program is an extension of the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) certified bean program. It uses cutting-edge technology. This includes the Farmers Business Network (FBN) Gradable digital platform. According to company information, the technology allows checking, tracking and segregating soybeans from farms to destination.

Jon Turney, ADM vice president for EMEA, acknowledged challenges in implementing new EU anti-deforestation regulations. He expressed confidence in the company's ability to continue delivering products to European customers. The aim is to ensure compliance with the new regulations, which will come into force on December 31st.

ADM's pilot program delivered 2,4 million bushels (approximately 64 thousand tons) of fully traceable soybeans to European customers in 2023. The company plans to expand the program to more locations in North America in 2024.
