On March 21, the Ministry of Transport opened a public consultation on the regulation of the movement of agricultural machinery on public roads, including highways. Society, including rural producers, has until April 20 to submit contributions to the Draft Resolution, which is available on the ministry's website. After the public consultation, the text and suggestions will be sent to the National Traffic Council (Contran) for deliberation.
The public consultation is available on the federal government website, which contains a summary of the topic, a technical note and the Draft Resolution. Due to doubts related to security and operational aspects of the topic, Faep had been maintaining dialogue with federal deputies, mainly those who are part of the Agricultural Parliamentary Front (FPA), questioning the technical feasibility of a Contran resolution for the transit of agricultural machinery .
The current Brazilian Traffic Code (CBT) prohibits the movement of agricultural machinery on highways. As a result, the machinery depends on special trailers for transportation or needs to use secondary roads. Therefore, the main demand of the agricultural sector is that Article 101 of the CBT be removed, which provides that vehicles above the established weight and dimensions limits may circulate on highways with a special traffic authorization.
According to the latest Agricultural Census from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), from 2017, there are 1,2 million tractors in Brazil, on 734 thousand rural properties.
“Our guidance is for rural producers to participate and send their contributions and opinions. They are the ones who use agricultural machinery in their daily lives and it is with the participation of rural producers that Brazil will be able to reach fair legislation that meets the needs of the productive sector, benefiting society as a whole”, he says. the president of the Faep/Senar-PR System, Ágide Meneguette.
If you have any questions about any point in the Draft Resolution or how to participate, rural producers can contact the Faep Legal Department by calling (41) 2169-7947, and speak to Edivânia Pícolo.
