China's Ministry of Agriculture has approved new varieties of genetically modified soybeans and corn. There were six of corn, two of soybeans and one of cotton. The information is from the Reuters agency.

For imports, the insect and herbicide resistant soybean variety DBN8002 has been approved. Developed by Beijing Dabeinong Technology Group Co Ltd, it has been planted in Argentina since 2022. A herbicide-tolerant corn variety from Corteva Inc has also received approval (DP202216). The permits are valid for five years, starting January 2, 2024.

China is the world's largest importer of soybeans and corn, so Chinese approvals have major implications for the size of global plantings. The country has cautiously advanced the adoption of technology for genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
