The Government of São Paulo today announced a task force to “clear” the queue of around 260 thousand registrations in the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) that already have analyzes available and are awaiting verification by producers. In March 2023, the State reached the mark of 423,5 thousand registrations processed, of which 91% had already had the analysis completed in the system. To reinforce the need to regularize properties, the São Paulo government launched the “Accept your CAR” campaign.
Established by Federal Law 12.651/12, the registry is a national electronic public record, mandatory for all owners of rural properties. Its objective is to integrate environmental information from rural properties, composing a database for control, monitoring, environmental and economic planning and combating deforestation.
In this way, the CAR is a priority condition for various operations with property registration bodies, environmental licensing and obtaining financing from public or private institutions.
“With an exemplary Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) system, São Paulo not only follows the path towards preserving our precious agricultural lands and forests, but also inspires nations and states. We ask producers to join us on this green journey, which is the path to a sustainable future”, highlights secretary Guilherme Piai.
Verification of analyzes is crucial for advancing the environmental regularization process. It is at this stage that interested parties have the opportunity to validate and/or update the declared information and check possible pending issues highlighted by the system.
In this way, the registry indicates the existence of native vegetation liabilities to be restored or surplus native vegetation existing on the rural property. The verification stage has the options of acceptance – total or partial – or total rejection of the results.
