Adama announces new CEO

Steve Hawkins assumes the role of president and CEO of Adama, replacing Ignacio Dominguez who chose to retire after serving in several executive roles at the company

Adama Ltd. announced today that its board of directors has appointed Steve Hawkins as President and CEO effective May 1, 2023. Hawkins will replace Ignacio Dominguez, who has chosen to retire from the company after serving in a series of executive roles at Adama , including as a key member of its executive committee for more than a decade.

Hawkins is currently Senior Vice President of the Americas at Adama, a role he has held since 2021. He brings with him extensive international leadership experience, having worked across many markets and businesses in a wide range of executive positions. He will report to Erik Fyrwald, chairman of Adama and president and CEO of Syngenta Group.

Fyrwald praised Hawkins' experience in international leadership and said he will work with the group's leadership team to maintain the momentum of Adama's strategy and accelerate the company's transformation for an even more prosperous future.

Hawkins has spent his entire career in agriculture, starting in sales with Growmark in Canada before joining one of Syngenta's legacy companies, ICI Canada, nearly three decades ago. He held several executive roles during his time at the company, including EAME Regional Director, Head of Sales CP & Seeds USA, Head of Commercial Operations for NA Corn & Soya Seeds, Country Head for Japan and South Korea, and APAC Regional Director for CP and Seeds.

Under Hawkins' leadership, the Adama team delivered strong business performance in 2022, while significantly advancing product portfolio transformation, advancing go-to-market strategy and business development.

Fyrwald also thanked Dominguez for his exemplary work at Adama, where he started in 2001. As CEO since 2020, Dominguez has guided the organization through many changes.
