To discuss actions focusing on advances in the seed and seedling sector, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, held a meeting with the Brazilian Seed and Seedling Association (Abrasem), the Seed Association of the Americas (SAA) and the International Seed Federation. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa).
On the occasion, proposals were presented for progress in the legislation on seed and seedling production, which aim for more innovation in plant improvement, advances in the defense of intellectual property and the development of phytosanitary measures.
“We will provide full support to help producers and promote advances in the seed sector”, highlighted Minister Fávaro. “We also need to guarantee intellectual property. We need to be respectful of science. Guaranteeing intellectual property is supporting development, so we can continue generating opportunities,” he added.
Also, during the meeting, the president of Abrasem, Ronaldo Troncha, handed minister Fávaro a document filed by the seed associations present, with essential points for the sector. “It is a joint document from the largest seed associations in the world, dealing mainly with legislation. This meeting is a great opportunity to demonstrate to the world good practices and how Brazil is sustainable. We are a reference for the world in productivity”, he highlighted.
