Flumethylsulforim is a fungicide developed for agricultural use, primarily for controlling foliar diseases in cereal crops.

Common name (ISO): flumethylsulforim

Synonyms: ADF-16 (reference code), Gilboa (Adama's trade name).

Gross formula: C12H12FN3O3S

Number CAS: 1616664-98-2

Chemical class: This fungicide belongs to the pyrimidine class, specifically the imino-tosyl-pyrimidone chemical. It is part of Group 32 of the FRAC (Fungicide Resistance Action Committee), which is related to nucleic acid metabolism.

Release year: It has not yet been commercially released (as of December 2025). It is in an advanced stage of development and registration, with approvals expected in Great Britain in 2027 and in the European Union in 2029, with plans for other territories.

Development history: Developed by Adama as a proprietary active ingredient. The first related patent dates back to 2011 (initially associated with Dow, but now under Adama). In May 2025, FRAC classified it as having a novel mode of action (Group 32). Field trials demonstrated efficacy against septoria leaf spot in wheat, with prolonged control (up to 35 days) and maintenance of green leaf area. On December 18, 2025, Adama and BASF announced a partnership for co-development and accelerated commercialization, aiming at innovative solutions for disease management in cereals.

Mode of action: Systemic fungicide with foliar absorption and multi-site action. It acts on nucleic acid metabolism (FRAC Group 32), a novel biochemical pathway in cereal fungicides, offering compatibility with other products and a low risk of cross-resistance. Effectively controls diseases such as septoria leaf spot in wheat and potentially sclerotinia in rapeseed.

Patent numbers: WO2011137002, WO2025114931A1 and others.
