The Embrapa Clima Temperado Experimental Station, in Capão do Leão (RS), was the venue for the collective presentation of the 34th Official Opening of the Rice and Grain Harvest in Lowlands. The event was held today, and included a tour of the areas of the station where structures are being set up that will receive companies and entities totaling 150 exhibitors during the three days of Harvest Opening activities, in an area of 26 hectares, ten of which are exclusive of crops. The Harvest Opening will be held from February 21st to 23rd, in Capão do Leão.

Alexandre Velho, president of the Federation of Rice Growers Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz), the event's organizing entity, highlighted that this year's theme “Managing Potentializing Harvests” is extremely relevant to the moment rice farmers are experiencing. He also highlighted, among the new features that will be presented to visitors, the Digital Arena, the Drones area and Industry 4.0.

It is estimated that 15 people will be present over three days. According to Velho, the 34th Official Opening of the Harvest is the biggest event held within all Embrapas in Brazil. “This leading role that we have within national production, of 70%, gives us the obligation to bring the necessary tools for producers to be successful in their agricultural activity”, highlighted the president of Federarroz.

He added that it is a business fair that provides an incredible technical part, the biggest field day in Rio Grande do Sul, with 50 technological showcases, which really combines a business fair with a technical part. Furthermore, according to the president of Federarroz, this year, in addition to the harvesting of the rice area, an area of soybeans will be harvested in the Breno Prates farm, symbolizing multicultures in the Lowlands.

The area received two soybean cultivars and four other rice cultivars. The symbolic harvest takes place on the 22nd, at 17pm.
