Yara revealed the winners of the third edition of the NossoCafé Contest, which took place on November 21st during one of the most important events in the sector, the International Coffee Week, in Belo Horizonte (MG). The competition aims to promote the production of high-quality coffees and recognize the best coffee growers in the country, boosting the increase in national production of specialty coffees. This year, the edition saw an increase in registrations of 49,1% and with very high scores from the finalist coffees, which shows the increasing importance of the award among specialty coffee producers.

The producers Sivanius Kutz, from Itarana (ES), was elected in the Peeled Cherry Coffee (Depulped or Desmucilado) category with 89,5 points, and Tobias da Silva Moreira, from Matas de Minas (MG)(MG), was elected in the Category Natural (dry-processed coffee, which has undergone drying with husks) with 91,9 points. Both competed with 164 registered samples and, after two stages of testing, classification and selection, five samples from each category were chosen for the final, in the capital of Minas Gerais.

The finalists will have their lot acquired by Yara for a price almost four times higher than the market price, their names and ownership details will be printed on the NossoCafé packaging that will be distributed globally by the company, and they will also win a trip to the Specialty Coffee Expo 2020, in Portland in the United States For Sivanius Kutz, the award is recognition of work carried out over four years. "I have always worked with vegetable crops and, four years ago, I decided to invest in coffee, due to the potential of the crop and also due to the recommendation of a friend, who indicated that the land was suitable for cultivation. The result of this work is in the process of winning the prize", explains the producer. Sivanius also reports that among the various competitions he participated in, this was the most important.

For Kaio Dias, agronomic specialist at Yara, the event has been gaining interest from coffee growers in different parts of the country. "The majority of producers are motivated to participate by the opportunity to demonstrate the potential of their coffee and also have a careful evaluation of their product. In this way, it is more than clear that Yara's business goes beyond the commercialization of fertilizers, we we touch on the most sensitive part of the business, the solution that helps them achieve all this success. We also emphasize the importance of coffee growers knowing the quality of their product, of each batch produced, so that they can achieve better markets and greater profitability", he concludes.
