The numbers and statistical data, now under analysis, on the performance of global coffee production consumption, were obtained from the Coffee market report – May 2021, from the International Coffee Organization – OIC, an institution representing global coffee farming, of which Brazil is a member country. This Report is available in full at Coffee Observatory, from the Consórcio Pesquisa Café, an integrated research network coordinated by Embrapa Café. It is worth clarifying that the coffee year for the ICO covers the period from October to September. Furthermore, global coffee consumption and production are grouped by the Organization into the six previously mentioned economic blocks.
It is worth highlighting that, in the aforementioned Report, the ICO attributes the increase in global coffee consumption to the easing of restrictions linked to the Covid-19 pandemic and the prospects for a subsequent economic recovery, in addition to consumer confidence, factors that have signaled a trend positive impact on global coffee consumption. Thus, according to the Organization, consumption is expected to grow by 2,3% in importing countries and 1% in exporting countries.
