With support from Mapa, agribusiness startups present themselves at AgroBIT Brasil

Of the 43 startups selected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), 12 participated in the final of Smart Farm Mapa Conecta AgroBIT 2021, this Tuesday afternoon (09/11). As part of AgroBIT Brasil's programming, Agritechs (startups focused on agriculture) had the opportunity to present their projects to a panel of experts, potential investors and the general public at the event.

According to Mapa's director of Innovation Support for Agriculture, Sibelle Silva, the call seeks to connect good ideas and agricultural startups with potential private investors to promote innovative businesses.

“We have an Innovation Secretariat at the Ministry and we closely monitor this movement of startups in agriculture. The field is increasingly technological and demands these innovations”, he declared when citing Mapa’s policies aimed at digital and biological-based agriculture for even more sustainable production.

The Smart Farm Mapa Conecta AgroBIT 2021 competition will result in prizes being awarded to the first three places. Those selected will be announced on Wednesday (10), at the end of the event.

AgroBIT Brasil's programming will also discuss agroinnovations applied to the daily lives of rural producers, immersing themselves in the journey that begins with soil management, including crops, application of pesticides, biological control, irrigation, genetics, harvesting, storage, logistics, traceability , marketplace, exports and other important topics such as green bureau, ESG, family succession, foodtech, cooperativism, among others.

Representing Minister Tereza Cristina, the Assistant Secretary for Innovation, Sustainable Development and Irrigation, Cleber Soares, highlighted Mapa's work based on adding value to Brazilian agribusiness with a vision of a biodigital future.

“Technology and innovation are and will increasingly be great levers to aggregate, add and capture value in our agribusiness. We have no doubt about the importance of Brazilian agribusiness for the country and the world. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to be a major producer and exporter not only of food, fiber and bioenergy, but we need to advance agriculture based on technology and innovation”, he highlighted.-

He also reinforced the sustainable criteria for national production, a reference for agriculture in a tropical climate in the world. “It will be the transformations of biological components associated with digital transformations that will increase in terms of production, productivity and added value to agriculture as a whole. This is our perspective and our commitment to an increasingly biodigital agribusiness."

AgroBIT Brazil

The event is one of the largest in the country focusing on innovation for agribusiness. AgroBIT Brasil's main objective is to discuss the transformative potential of innovations and technologies in agriculture, bringing together in its fourth edition national and international experts who will present the main cases, solutions, trends and opportunities in the sector.

Mapa also participates in the panel “Foodtech – Technological Transformation of the Food Sector”. At the event, the general coordinator of Articulation for Innovation, Daniel Trento, will be the moderator.

For him, the foodtech sector represents an opportunity for Brazil to add value and generate new products, valuing biodiversity and the greatness of agricultural production.

“Foodtechs are fundamentally important in the future of global food. Brazil is currently a major producer of commodities and could also gain prominence as a producer of processed foods”, he highlighted.
