Most recent data from Operação Controle, released this Tuesday, September 13th, at an event at Esplanada dos Ministérios, in Brasília (Federal District), reveal that, over three months of operation, 190 tons of pesticides were seized , in addition to other products, in eight states of the federation. CropLife Brasil (CLB) – an association that works in the research and development of technologies for sustainable agricultural production – is one of the industry entities supporting the initiative. The action, designed within the scope of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), aims to provide training to police officers, assist in the identification of illegal products, including chemical pesticides, and provide environmentally appropriate disposal for seizures.

The Operation brought together, in an unprecedented way, different security and inspection institutions: it was coordinated by the Secretariat of Integrated Operations (Seopi) and carried out by the Federal Highway Police (PRF), Federal Police (PF), Military and Civil Police of border regions of the Country (Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul), Secretariat of Agricultural Defense of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) and Federal Revenue (RFB). "We want to highlight the relevance of this Seopi initiative, as planning and coordinating an action of this magnitude, with national scope, is a novelty. It was extremely important that the Ministry of Justice integrated the various enforcement bodies in this operation", comments Nilto Mendes , Manager of the Committee to Combat Illegal Products at CropLife Brasil.

"The main objective of Operation Control Brazil is the decapitalization of criminal organizations and the irregular entry of legal and illicit products into the country. With a great impact, it also has an economic bias, as, through the illegal entry of goods, the economy is also achieved. The success of the operation is due to the union of efforts of bodies with different responsibilities, but which complement each other", reiterates the Secretary of Integrated Operations of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), Alfredo Carrijo. Nilto Mendes celebrates the effort as a milestone of synergy not only between control and inspection institutions, but also with the industry. “We want to reiterate our commitment to offering support to all these authorities, so that we can, together, dispose of all seized products, not only in this operation, but also in future ones. Our commitment is permanent", he states.
