With the purpose of promoting increased corn productivity, encouraging the development of new studies and new technologies and techniques that promote sustainability, the Tactical Group for Increased Productivity (GETAP) emerged, bringing together business leaders from different agribusiness chains. Brazilian.

Leading this initiative, agronomist Anderson Galvão, director of Céleres, an agribusiness consultancy and specialist in the grain market, comments that Getap was recently formed after observing that at the same time there is a growing demand for corn in Brazil and abroad, and tight stocks, there is also a vast potential for this crop to be developed sustainably and with increased productivity.

“We realized in the field, during these almost twenty years of Céleres, that if we promote more discussions and studies, with new perspectives and new metrics, with each harvest, it will be possible to increase corn productivity, with respect to the soil and with better use of the areas , and this is extremely important in the challenge of feeding the world in the coming decades”, highlights Anderson Galvão.

GETAP Milho has a mission with Brazilian producers: to double corn production in the next 10 years. And to achieve this goal, it relies on all the intelligence of Céleres to identify solutions in agriculture, such as the use of pesticides and special fertilizers, crop rotation, direct planting, crop-livestock-forest integration (ILPF) and precision agriculture.

During field studies, it was observed that, in general, average productivity in Paraná and Goiás/Distrito Federal are higher than the rest of the country due to climate regularity, high altitude and greater technology/investment profile by the producer.

“Last year, productivity fell at a national level due to the short window for corn cultivation, winter, drought during crop development and frost close to harvest. But we understand it as something specific”, explains Anderson Galvão.

“But even in a challenging year like 2021, preliminary results from the independent audit point to very high productivity levels, which reinforces the understanding that there is, indeed, a lot of room to increase the cereal’s productive efficiency.”

In general, the scenario is positive for exports. With the growth of second crop production, Brazil has established itself as a reliable and high-scale source for cereal-consuming countries such as the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

To give you an idea, Brazil went from exporting 8-10 MM tons per year to 30-40 MM tons after 2017. This year, specifically, shipments should be at 22 MM, influenced by the winter crop failure.

For the next five years, the Getap model and studies point to a potential of 60MM tons of exports, with growth in demand from the usual countries and greater interest from the Chinese in our cereal.

In the domestic market, consumption continues to show reasonable and constant growth (3%-4% p.a.), with an increase in the share of corn for ethanol production in the Central-West.

1st Forum

To debate topics about corn cultivation, one of the most important in the country, Getap will hold the first forum, on the 10th and 11th of November. The event is aimed at those interested in the production chain as a whole and registration is free.

The following topics will be covered: - “Agronomic Technology (genetics, management, nutrition, Agriculture 4.0, among others)”; “The Corn Economy (price, profitability and attractiveness of corn in different regions of the country) and “Sustainable Production (integration processes with other crops, renewable fuel matrix and much more)”.
