Liquidity is low in the Brazilian coffee market at the beginning of January. In addition to the year-end break, most buyers and, especially, sellers, are waiting for a better definition of Brazilian production in 2022/23 before returning to the market, according to Cepea employees.
Another factor that has kept agents withdrawn is the strong fluctuation in futures – external prices have been influenced by technical movements and, in the case of Robusta, by the increase in shipments from Vietnam this month.
In the domestic market, prices have had less variation, remaining at high levels. Specifically for Robusta, producers are more capitalized in this harvest, due to the recent rise in prices, and should sell the remainder of their merchandise only in times of need or with new appreciation of the variety.
