Emater/RS-Ascar updated the estimate for the 2022 winter harvest, which is expected to be 5.758.257 tons, 27,4% higher than the previous harvest, combining wheat, white oats, canola and barley. The data was collected in the second half of September (16 to 30/09) in 358 municipalities that produce wheat, 200 of white oat grains, 101 municipalities that produce canola and 75, barley. This increase in winter grain production is the result of the 15,3% increase in the cultivated area in the State, but also of the planning and adoption of technologies for the current harvest. The report published this Tuesday (11/10) was prepared by the Information and Analysis Center (NIA) of the Planning Management (GPL) of Emater/RS-Ascar, and can be accessed at link.

According to the survey, wheat, the main winter crop, will have a production of 4.680.780 tons, which represents a variation of 32,01% above the 2021 harvest, which was 3.545.796 tons. The area cultivated with the cereal also increased and reached 1.458.026 hectares, 18,64% more than the previous harvest, which had 1.228.978 hectares cultivated with wheat. For this 2022 harvest, wheat productivity will also be higher and, according to this second estimate, will be 3.210 kg/ha.

The main wheat producing regions in RS are Ijuí, with 378.655 hectares, Santa Rosa, with 293.925 hectares, Frederico Westphalen, with 166.080 hectares, Bagé, with 150.541 hectares, and Passo Fundo, with 135.761 hectares cultivated with wheat.

White oat grains are expected to have a production of 868.741 tons, 7,31% more than in the previous harvest, which was 809.592 tons. Despite the low variation (+2,08%), the cultivated area in RS increased from 343.511 hectares to 350.641 hectares. The expected average productivity is 2.478 kilos of white oat grains per hectare, 5,12% higher than the productivity obtained in the last harvest (2021), which was 2.357 kg/ha.

In terms of regions producing white oat grains, Ijuí is the largest, with 97.397 hectares, followed by the regions of Santa Maria, with 47.220 hectares, Passo Fundo, with 42.184 hectares, Santa Rosa, with 40.605 hectares, and Soledade, with 35.830 hectares of oats.

The canola crop should reach a production of 87.500 tons, 59,77% more than in the previous harvest, which was 54.767 tons. For this harvest, the area cultivated with canola increased by 40,46%, from 38.029 hectares to 53.415 hectares. The expected productivity for this harvest has also increased and is expected to be 1.638 kilos per hectare, 13,21% more than the previous one, which was 1.447 kg/ha.

The largest canola producing region in RS is Santa Rosa, with 25.229 hectares. Next, the Santa Maria region is the second with the largest canola area, with 9.906 hectares, the third is Ijuí, with 8.421 hectares, and the fourth, Bagé, with 6.200 hectares cultivated. There is no canola production in the regions of Lajeado, Pelotas and Porto Alegre.

Barley also showed an increase in area this harvest, according to a survey by Emater/RS-Ascar, which projects a production of 121.236 tons, 9,29% more than in the last harvest, which was 110.929 tons. The projected area of ​​37.450 also increased (+2,83%), compared to the previous harvest (36.421 hectares), which results in an expected productivity of 3.237 kilos of barley per hectare, 6,28% greater than the obtained last year, which was 3.046 kg/ha.

In the State, barley is cultivated on 12.440 hectares in the Erechim region, on 8.348 hectares in the Frederico Westphalen region, on 6.761 hectares in the Passo Fundo region, and on 5.934 hectares in the Caxias do Sul region. The regions of Bagé, Pelotas , Porto Alegre and Santa Maria do not grow barley.
