Wheat cultivation already reaches 43% of the planted area of the 915.712 hectares planned for the 2020 harvest. According to the Conjunctural Information released by Emater/RS-Ascar on Thursday, June 18, in partnership with the State Department of Agriculture , Livestock and Rural Development (Seapdr), producers in the Passo Fundo region project an increase of around 30% in the planting area in relation to 2019. They are waiting for the decrease in soil moisture, caused by intense rains in the period, to resume wheat planting, which takes place between June 10th and July 10th. In the regions of Frederico Westphalen, Santa Maria, Santa Rosa, Erechim, Bagé, Ijuí, Pelotas, Soledade and Caxias do Sul, the week was one of expansion of planting areas. The planted crops are in the germination and vegetative development phase.

In the Frederico Westphalen region, 60 thousand hectares have already been implemented. With the prospect of favorable weather and good prices, there is a tendency for the total area to be cultivated to increase by 15% compared to the previous year. In Santa Maria, the planted area has already reached 22 thousand hectares, and there is also a prospect of an increase in the total area in relation to the last harvest. In the Santa Rosa region, planting has made little progress due to very humid soils, and the planted area already reaches 155 thousand hectares. The crops planted before the rains of the week have a good plant stand and have between one and three developed leaves. At Bagé, the combination of favorable factors, such as rising prices, favorable climate prospects and partnerships with private companies, has been responsible for the estimated 50% increase in area compared to the last harvest. There is also a 50% increase in the area under wheat in the Pelotas region compared to 2019.

In canola, the rainy week, cloudy periods and high relative humidity slowed down the pace of crop implementation in the Emater/RS-Ascar regions of Ijuí and Santa Rosa. In this, sowing was carried out on 13.970 hectares, where crops in vegetative development predominate. Areas planted early are already beginning to flower. Expectations for canola in the region are very promising, as crops benefited from favorable weather conditions during planting and germination.

In barley, in the regions of Erechim and Ijuí, the implementation of the crop was interrupted by excess soil moisture due to rain. In Erechim, the estimated planting intention indicates that the area planted in the last harvest should be maintained. In Ijuí, the planted crops show good establishment, emergence was uniform and the initial development of the plants is satisfactory. Newly emerged plants have one to three leaves.

In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Ijuí region, white oat is in vegetative development, with the vast majority of areas showing stem elongation, and in small areas flowering begins, with good plant density and uniformity in crops. The plants have a good number of tillers, projecting high initial productive potential.

summer culture

Corn

In most regions of the State, the week presented a large variation in temperature and high humidity; Such conditions made it impossible to complete the harvest, which had already ended in 99% of the harvested crops. Requests for Proagro inspections continue to occur in crops that use the rural credit policy in the State. Until Wednesday (17/06), 6.621 Proagro inspections were carried out on corn crops by Emater/RS-Ascar technicians. In total, 18.671 inspections have been carried out since December 01, 2019, due to the damage caused by the drought.

In the administrative region of Emater/RS-Ascar de Soledade, the completion of the harvest is more delayed, with 96% of crops harvested. The current yield is 2.810 kilos per hectare. Harvest crops are those established in the afternoon, in the post-tobacco harvest period, and have a delay in maturation due to humid weather conditions due to rain and low temperatures, which prolong the cycle and interfere with the quality of the grain. After harvesting, these grains will have to go through a drying process to avoid losses during storage.

Beans 2st harvest

In the administrative regions of Emater/RS-Ascar of Ijuí, Erechim and Porto Alegre, producers are waiting for the weather to improve to complete the harvest, which is carried out only in small areas of municipalities where rainfall was lower. The average yield in Ijuí has remained at 1.340 kilos per hectare; in Erechim, 800 kilos per hectare; and in Porto Alegre, where the harvest was completed, the average yield is 750 kilos per hectare.

Fruit crops

citrus

In the Lajeado region, the supply of citrus fruits from Vale do Caí orchards has increased significantly in the last two weeks. Among bergamot trees, Caí's harvest reached 25%, while Poncã's harvest reached 20%. Although the drought caused a reduction in the size of the ripe fruit, the sweetness was not affected. In tests carried out within the scope of the Vale do Caí citrus fruit qualification project, developed by Emater/RS-Ascar in partnership with Sebrae, fruits from the Caí cultivar in Pareci Novo orchards demonstrated an average of 13 degrees brix, considered excellent. The prices received by citrus growers for a 25-kilo box averaged R$27,00 for Caí and R$23,00 for Poncã, with a decrease compared to the last week of May, due to the entry of a larger volume of fruit as the harvest progresses.

Regarding oranges, the cultivars of Céu, an orange without acidity, the Shamouti cultivar, which has a dual purpose, both for natural consumption and for making juice, and the umbiligo Bahia, a table orange par excellence, are being harvested. The Valencia harvest also began, preferably intended for juice production in homes, bars, restaurants and industry.

Peach

In the Pelotas region, pruning and cleaning activities are being intensified, reaching 20% of the orchards. Producers continue to renew harvest funding contracts with financial agents, with support from Emater/RS-Ascar, with good expectations for the next harvest. The predictions of a drier and colder winter should result in good flowering and good fruit set.
