Orange and other citrus are part of the great success of local agribusiness, and are now experiencing a moment of recovery after facing many challenges
According to the Economic Information produced and released this Thursday (28/07) by Emater/RS-Ascar, in the Santa Rosa region, production pruning and spray treatments continued to control diseases in the vines. . The peach and plum trees are in bloom; the spray treatments were completed. Strawberries in semi-hydroponics show a significant number of flowers during the week, and gradually begin production. It remains necessary to control diseases, such as anthracnose and fruit rot. The harvest of citrus fruits, such as bergamot and oranges of the navel and Bahia varieties, is already coming to an end, being sold at R$2,50 to R$3,00/kg. Harvested are the Céu, Salustiana and Rubi oranges and the common bergamots, Ponkan and Danci, being sold at R$1,50/kg.
In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Ijuí region, peach producers continued fruit pruning. Citrus trees experience fruit drop due to fruit fly attacks. In most municipalities, melon and watermelon producers begin preparing the areas; increases the demand for credit to finance crops. Strawberries are producing the first layer of fruit, and there is already an increase in the supply of the fruit at fairs and local shops. In the vines, pruning and winter treatments have been intensified, and budding has already begun in some vineyards in the region.
In the Soledade region, dry weather favors the quality of the fruits, increase and uniformity of rose flowering – peach, plum and strawberry trees. Fruit pruning on peach and plum trees is practically complete and budding of these species has begun. It is important to monitor this budding phase, as cold winds can cause blight, which, at high levels, requires phytosanitary management. The high temperature accelerated and standardized flowering, a phase that begins the treatment for brown rot. The week with a predominance of drier weather intensified the production of flowers on the strawberry plant and the growth of plants transplanted later. This climatic condition also favors the quality of the fruits. The direct sales price to the consumer varies from R$18,00 to R$20,00/kg.
In the Erechim region, strawberry production is good at the moment. The price remains at R$ 15,00/kg. Cultural treatments in grape cultivation and fruit pruning in peach trees follow. The citrus harvest continues – Bahia and Navelina navel oranges, Ponkan and Montenegrin bergamot. Prices are stable.
In the Passo Fundo region, there is a period of chlorinated and phosphate fertilizers in apple and vine orchards. With the increase in temperatures, the peach trees began to flower (1 to 2% of the plants), and the first shoots began to appear. Climatic conditions with mild temperatures and dry weather contributed to the advancement of the citrus harvest in the region. Cultural practices and phytosanitary management of cultivars with fruits to be harvested were still maintained. Prices remain stable.
In the Porto Alegre region, the pace of preparing areas for planting the new watermelon crop increased. The watermelon production microregion on the slopes of the Jacuí River seeks to compensate for the delay caused by the sequence of rains in recent weeks. Banana prices on the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul remain stable. The fruits continue with smaller filling; cold and less light reduce plant metabolism. Local supply is still low.
