The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) will hold next Friday (24), at 15 pm, a video conference with the Rural Insurance Monitor project, dedicated in this edition to wheat, with the aim of evaluating products and services offered by insurance companies and propose improvements. This work will be coordinated by Mapa's Risk Management Department and will have the participation and support of entities representing rural producers and their cooperatives, input resellers, insurance companies, reinsurers, brokers, experts and financial institutions.

Wheat agricultural insurance is offered by 13 insurance companies qualified in the Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Program (PSR) in all producing regions, with greater emphasis on Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo, followed by Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais. In 2020, partial contracting results show an increase compared to last year, with 9 thousand policies in an insured area of 526 thousand hectares and R$1 billion in insured value. "The number of wheat producers benefiting from the program tends to increase, as at the end of July another batch of winter crop policies will be calculated", says Mapa's Secretary of Agricultural Policy, César Halum.

Halum informed that the schedule of events starting in July, via videoconference, aims to identify opportunities for improvements in insurance services for more than 60 activities involving grains, fruits, vegetables, livestock, forestry, aquaculture, coffee and other crops. "The monitor is an opportunity for producers and cooperatives, with their representative entities, to build solutions with Mapa's insurance and support companies", he explains.

Banana

On July 17th, the videoconference of the rural banana insurance monitor was held, with 70 participants including producers and representatives of associations, federations and national entities. The lecture on banana agricultural insurance was led by the Superintendent of Mapfre Seguros, Cátia Rucco Rivelles, who explained the importance of the initiative. "The insurance monitor for banana cultivation was very enriching. The participating public, all agents in the production chain, were really interested in understanding the insurance product and enabling access to it for rural producers. I believe we took a big step", she finishes.

According to Vanessa Maria Correa Pacheco, agricultural technician at the Banana Growers Association (ABLA), in Luiz Alves, Santa Catarina, the agricultural insurance program is an important step for family farming. "Without a doubt, the PSR application is a practical way of bringing the most technological producer of quick information closer together."
