Given the substantial advances in technology and research in recent years, wheat presents itself as the crop with the greatest growth potential in Brazil, especially in Paraná. This is confirmed by the president of Coopavel, Dilvo Grolli, who from September 1st to 3rd will welcome wheat farmers and rural producers at the in-person stage of the 2nd Coopavel Winter Rural Show, which will take place in Cascavel, in the west of the state.

The condition is so favorable to wheat that there is a possibility of the country doubling its production in a few years. “In addition to encouragement and support from companies and governments, rural producers need to know more about the evolution of management technologies, varieties and their resistance to bad weather. This is precisely what we are going to show in our experimental field with the presence of 15 of the largest companies linked to crops recommended for the cold months of the year”, according to Dilvo Grolli.

The southern region of Brazil accounts for almost 90% of national wheat production. The country is expected to harvest, in the 2021/2022 harvest, seven million tons. Paraná, the largest Brazilian producer of the grain, accounts for almost 52% of this total. The forecast is for the State to harvest 3,8 million tons this harvest, an increase of almost 22% compared to the previous one.

Even with production on the rise, in the 2020/2021 harvest, Brazil needed to import more than six million tons of grain. “I say that the potential of wheat is fantastic also due to the growth in demand. Furthermore, the cultural situation today is very different from that of the past. We have more resistant and very productive varieties”, says the president of Coopavel.

Six thousand kilos

The general coordinator of the winter edition of the Show Rural Coopavel, agronomist Rogério Rizzardi, states that 20 varieties of wheat will be presented in the in-person stage. “And some of them with surprising productivity, of more than six thousand kilos per hectare. It’s really worth coming to the event and learning about these new developments,” he says. Details of the second edition were discussed this week during a meeting between directors and area coordinators and managers of the cooperative's 34 branches.

Plant wheat

Another aspect that leaves leaders in the agricultural sector and producers optimistic about the future of triticulture are campaigns, including those carried out by the State Government in partnership with entities, that encourage the cultivation of the cereal. These actions demonstrate, according to Dilvo Grolli, the attention that culture is now receiving. “She is experiencing a special moment and the trend is only for growth. This is a great opportunity for producers, who need to understand that wheat is no longer just a winter crop option, it is an option with good yield.”

Visitation

Anyone interested in learning more about winter crops will be very welcome at the in-person stage, from September 1st to 3rd, starting at 8am. A careful health plan will be observed for everyone's safety, says the manager of Show Rural Coopavel, Adriana Gomes. Producers will be divided into groups and will visit, always wearing masks, specially prepared stations. There, technicians will review content and clarify doubts.

To participate, the member simply needs to look for and inform the nearest Coopavel branch. Non-members can schedule a visit by calling (45) 3225-6885. The in-person stage is part of the digital edition of the event, with episodes that can be watched at the addresses www.showrural.com.br e youtube.com/showruralagro.
