Monitora Oeste, a system for monitoring diseases and pests in cotton and soybean crops in western Bahia, gained new functionality. From the 2022/23 harvest onwards, the web and mobile device versions of the tool will disclose the occurrences of the boll weevil, the main pest of cotton plantations. The records will be inserted from the monitoring of the 2022/23 harvest. In Brazil, cotton begins to be planted in November and December and the damage caused by pests and diseases becomes noticeable from February onwards.
The technology is the result of a partnership between Embrapa and the Bahian Association of Cotton Producers (Abapa) and was launched at the beginning of this year with data on occurrences and favorability for occurrences of ramularia spot and Asian rust.
Data on boll weevil occurrences will be entered into the system by a network of collaborators, made up of Abapa professionals, who periodically visit the fields of the 18 Regional Boll Weevil Control Centers. Phytosanitary Program from Abapa.
Embrapa Territorial researcher Julio Bogiani highlights that the monitoring of the pest will occur both in the sanitary void (period with the absence of live plants) - carried out through traps installed in all Regional Control Centers - and during the cultivation period - carried out by observing the beetle in crops. “These results will be available for consultation in the application and on the WebGis website and will be updated in real time, enabling individual and joint actions to be more effective in combating the pest”, he emphasizes.
In addition to the new functionality, the mobile version has a new layout.
The Monitora Oeste application is available in stores Apple or Google free. The web version is also free and can be accessed at system page, on the Embrapa Territorial portal.
