Volume of coffee exports in January is the highest for a period in five years, according to Cecafé

Brazilian coffee exports in volume of bags shipped recorded the best monthly result for January in the last five years. 2.724.044 bags (green, roasted & ground and soluble) were exported this month of January, compared to 2.353.338 in the same period of 2007. In relation to January 2010, there was an increase of 9,3% in the volume of bags shipped . Revenue also showed a significant increase compared to the same month last year (50,8%), closing at US$581,57 million. The data was released today by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé).

 

“Despite the fact that we are already in the off-season, Brazil has been maintaining high levels of coffee exports, with prices also increasing. The average price of green coffee, for example, increased by 4,5% in January compared to December”, says Guilherme Braga, General Director of Cecafé.

 

The survey shows that Europe accounts for 55% of the Brazilian product import market, North America accounts for 23%, Asia accounts for 16%, and South America accounts for 3%. In the evaluation by country, the United States leads with the acquisition of 551.073 bags in January (20% of total exports), followed by Germany, with 534.244 (20%), Italy, with 274.851 (10%) and Belgium, with 202.396 ( 7%). Japan comes next, with 150.777 bags (6% of the total).

 

In the main shipping ports, the result was as follows: Santos, with 2.177.043 bags (79,9% of the total), followed by Vitória, with 314.842 bags (11,6%), and Rio de Janeiro, with 209.625 bags ( 7,7%)
