Super Terminais, the most efficient private terminal in the Manaus Industrial Complex, handled 741.469,80 tons by the end of November, a volume 72% higher than in 2021, when 429.548,38 tons were handled at the port terminal. The cargo handled in more than 122 thousand containers was, in large part, electronic products used to supply the Manaus Free Trade Zone. The perspective is that in the first half of 2023 the three new electric cranes acquired by the port terminal will begin operating, which will bring an improvement of more than 25% in current productivity.
According to Marcello Di Gregorio, director of Super Terminais, the year 2022 was very positive for the company, mainly from the point of view of productivity and quality of operations.
“Today, we have the best average length of stay for ships in the Manaus region, which reaches 44 hours. We surpassed our own hourly moves record eight times this year. Of the 37 ships operated so far in 2022, 30 had averages above 35 containers moved per hour and 15 above 40 containers moved per hour, a very positive index”, celebrates the executive.
Currently, the vast majority of ships that pass through Super Terminals transship in Panama, Central America. The cargo is then transferred to other ships that move it, mainly, to Asia, Europe, America and other regions around the planet.
According to Aníbal Simões Lima, operational manager at Super Terminais, the average length of time trailers spend in the internal perimeter to carry out basic services, such as cargo removal, dropped from 2 hours to just 50 minutes this year. “In some cases, we reach even shorter stays, around 30 minutes. All these indexes show the efficiency and quality of Super Terminais’ operations in Manaus,” he states.
The explanation for the improvement in indicators, for Lima, lies in the team's commitment, training and integrated management. “In February, we created a planning and operational efficiency committee, which brings together all of Super Terminais’ operational teams. This committee is responsible for planning the cargo movement strategy in an integrated manner, which allows for better results. Furthermore, we currently have equipment used to move containers that enable time-optimized transport”, explains the operational manager.
The year 2023 should be marked with even better rates at Super Terminais, according to company executives. The expectation is that the port terminal's productivity will grow by at least 25% next year, after the completion of the installation of the three new ESP cranes, manufactured in the Netherlands and considered the most modern in Brazil.
“Between 2021 and 2022 we made the largest investment in our history, worth R$260 million. With this, we will be able to expand our pier and put high-tech equipment into operation, which in addition to improving our productivity, will allow operations to become even more sustainable, saving fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The expectation is that by April next year the cranes will begin operating at Super Terminais”, says Di Gregorio.
