The online launch event of the GO-FAIR Agro Brasil Network, an initiative to promote the governance and management of research data in agricultural sciences. The network is part of an international movement and aims to propose strategies and mobilize partnerships to encourage the sharing and reuse of data produced within the scope of agricultural production systems and also those arising from research in agricultural sciences, supported by the FAIR principles (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable, in the English translation).
The objective is to build and disseminate standardized mechanisms and procedures for the collection, storage, preservation and availability of data, facilitating its reuse.
The implementation of the thematic network focused on the universe of Brazilian agricultural research data is coordinated by Embrapa together with a panel formed by universities and other institutions in the country. The first step towards implementation was taken in November 2021 during the XIII Brazilian Agroinformatics Congress, with the preparation of the manifesto and the participation of several actors. Starting this year, working groups will be formed with the participation of the community interested in the topic to collectively build the work dynamics of the GO-FAIR Agro Brasil Network.
To this end, in addition to the launch, the event's program will include a workshop to outline activities for the next biennium, aimed at information technology, information science and agricultural science professionals, as well as data scientists who work in agricultural chains. Registration is free.
Participating in the launch are Carla Macário, deputy head of Research and Development at Embrapa Digital Agriculture (Campinas/SP) and responsible for coordinating the implementation of the network, Luana Sales, from the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) and coordinator of the office of GO FAIR Brazil, and Sergio Serra, professor at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
The event is promoted by Embrapa, Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP), Federal University of Pampa (Unipampa), in addition to UFRJ and UFRRJ. It also has the support of the Brazilian Society of Agroinformatics (SBIAgro), the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of São Paulo (IEA/USP) and the Center for Artificial Intelligence (C4AI).
