Vigifronteira operation seizes smuggled loads of garlic and onions in the south of the country

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) seized in the early hours of this Wednesday (29/03), in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), six tons of garlic and one ton of onions smuggled in irregular transit. In São Borja (RS), 780 liters of pesticides were seized, also smuggled. It is estimated that the offenders will lose approximately R$200.

The action is part of the 35th operation of the Agricultural Defense Surveillance Program for International Borders (Vigifronteira) which is taking place in the States of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina in conjunction with the Military Police, Civil Police, Federal Police, Federal Highway Police , Federal Revenue of Brazil and the State Animal and Plant Health Defense Agencies and Secretariats (Adapar, Cidasc and Seapi).

During the seizures, one infraction notice, two terms of seizure and six terms of inspection were issued. One arrest was also made and five were taken to the police station to investigate illicit activities related to the crime of embezzlement and environmental crime.

Vigifronteira's actions are carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the Integrated Border Protection Program (PPIF), which aims at the integrated action of federal and state bodies in combating border crimes.
