Value of exports in July increases, but volume decreases

There was a 4% increase in value and a 2% drop in export volume compared to the previous month

Farsul released, this Thursday (10/08), the results of exports from Rio Grande do Sul for the month of July. According to the Agribusiness Foreign Trade Report, compared to June 2023, there was a 4% increase in the value of exports, but a 2% drop in the volume exported by agribusiness in Rio Grande do Sul.

Compared to the same period in 2022, there was a 4% drop in exported value (US$1,2 billion in 2023, against US$1,3 billion in 2022) and a decrease in volume (1,5 million tons in 2023 against 1,6 million tons in 2022). Agribusiness accounted for 69% of the total value exported by the state, and 88% of the volume. The accumulated result for the year is US$8,1 billion, 1% higher than the period last year. In volume, accumulated, there was a drop of 2%, totaling 11,7 million tons.

Rio Grande do Sul's main trading partners in the period were Asia (excluding the Middle East), with US$565 million and 853 thousand tons, and Europe, which reached US$301 million, of which US$249 million went to the Union European. Next we have the Middle East with US$87 million, North America with US$106 million, South America with US$80 million, Africa with US$59 million, Oceania with US$2 million and Central America and the Caribbean with US$ $32 million.

As for countries, China appears in first place with US$331 million and a 26,7% share in value. In second place we have the United States with 6,9%, Belgium with 6,2%, Vietnam with 6,1% and South Korea with 4,7%.

Imports made by the sector indicate that the Adubos Group (fertilizers) and its ingredients went from US$ 433 million in Jul/22 to US$ 257 million in Jul/23, a 41% drop in value. In terms of volume, it went from 566 thousand tons to 741 thousand tons, an increase of 31%. Compared to the previous month, there was an increase of 41% in value and 57% in volume.
