The Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) for 2022 closed at R$1,189 trillion. The value is the second highest in a 34-year series of calculations for this indicator. Crop revenue was R$814,77 billion and livestock revenue was R$374,27 billion.

The 2022 VBP was marked by positive results for several products, growth in agribusiness exports and agricultural prices. The factor that most affected performance was the drought, especially in the South and part of the Central-West region, which resulted in losses to farmers caused by losses in soybean, corn and bean production. Livestock farming was also affected due to supply losses.

The products that stood out the most in 2022 were cotton, coffee, corn, wheat and milk. These five products reached the highest VBP value in the entire historical period that year. Prices and quantities produced were the main factors that promoted these products.

Estimate for 2023

The estimated VBP for 2023 is 6,3% higher than that of 2022, and could reach R$1,263 trillion. Crops should see a real increase of 8,3%, and livestock farming of 1,9%.

So far, the most relevant points this year are the recovery of the soybean VBP, which should reach R$406,4 billion. A less favorable performance is expected in coffee, cotton and wheat.

The first five highlighted products in the 2023 VBP are soybeans, corn, sugarcane, coffee and cotton, which represent 83,7% of the crops' VBP.
