Recently, Valtra revealed the latest generation of its high-power tractor: the S Series, produced in Suolahti (Finland). According to the company, in addition to presenting several design and functional improvements, the entire S Series range is now available with Valtra Unlimited customization options.
Valtra has dubbed its high-powered machine “The Boss.” With 280-420 HP, the S Series brings together Valtra's most powerful tractors, promising high torque at low speeds. The 8.4l AGCO Power engine and CVT transmission offer a 5% reduction in revs and up to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the S predecessor.
The updated S Series places great emphasis on comfort, visibility and smart technology. There are several new features and improvements that differentiate the 6th generation S Series. A new design, improved access, a new spacious cabin, a greater number of lights (all LED) and more versatility for all tasks are just some of the new features.
The factory-installed "TwinTrac" reversing system and "SmartTouch" user interface have always been popular features. The new S Series brings updates including a range of suspension options for the front axle and cab. S Series tractors can now also be equipped with Valtra's Skyview cab option and Valtra Unlimited customizations.
The design of the new S Series takes inspiration from Valtra's popular 5th generation design, but there are some changes. “Leader” of Valtra’s industrial design and user experience department, Kimmo Wihinen, explains: “The 6th generation S Series combines form and function in a modern, aggressive language that conveys the power of the S Series. The elegant slope of the hood provides exceptional forward visibility. As an industry first, the S Series features a fully integrated lighting unit, including LED low and high beams, LED daytime running lights, as well as short-range LED work lights at the front. This provides an exceptionally high level of light emission and gives the 6th generation S Series its distinctive look.”
There are now a total of 16 work lights, all of which are LED. Fans of Valtra's 5th generation N, T and Q Series cabs will appreciate the familiar, ergonomic S Series cab, which is accessed via more gently sloped steps than the previous generation.
The new S Series offers advanced technology. Valtra's SmartTurn automatic headland maneuver completes the autonomous country driving experience with four turning patterns: partial field mode, U-turn, Y-turn and K-turn.
“Our current precision farming offering meets most customer demands and the SmartTouch user interface makes Valtra's smart farming technology the easiest on the market. We are working on new technological features that Valtra customers will benefit from in the near future”, comments product marketing specialist Johan Grotell. For example, the Isobus-based "Tractor Implement Management" (TIM) is expected to be launched in the S Series in 2025.
According to the company, the S Series will be one of the brand's most sustainable tractors, both in terms of production and support for farmers. Two-thirds of Valtra tractor components come from Finland and its factory runs on 100% renewable energy. The S Series is compatible with biodiesel diesel and will leave the factory with biodiesel in the tank. The technology offered with the S Series reduces inputs and time, and reduces fuel consumption, making the farmer's work more efficient and sustainable.
Valtra Unlimited customization has proven increasingly popular in recent years, with more than a third of all tractors leaving the Valtra factory in Suolahti with some form of Unlimited customization.
Valtra EME Vice President of Marketing Mikko Lehikoinen explains how these are particularly beneficial for high-power customers “Large farms and tractor farming enterprises depend on having the right solutions to carry out advanced smart farming tasks as efficiently as possible. Valtra Unlimited is uniquely positioned to offer exactly what every company needs to farm more efficiently, more ergonomically and with greater safety.”
Valtra Unlimited features will be available for all 6th generation S Series models. The new S Series tractors are available with Unlimited's Central Lubrication System (CLS) and a state-of-the-art sound system (including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). The Unlimited VIEW camera system also comes to the S Series. This system uses tractor-mounted cameras, a high-definition display, and advanced machine learning algorithms to automatically detect moving objects in front of the tractor and alert the driver for improved safety. field and on the road.
The 6th generation S Series marks the first global launch of a Valtra tractor. Series production will be ramped up in the second quarter of 2024 and the first deliveries in Europe can be expected in the summer.
Deliveries to regions with less regulated emission standards, such as South America, are expected to begin in the second half of 2024.
Valtra will showcase the S Series at field and customer events around the world from November 2023. Valtra will showcase the 6th generation S Series at Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany, between November 12th and 18th.
