The 15th National Meeting of Direct Planting in Straw is a biannual event held by the Brazilian Federation of Direct Planting and Irrigation (FEBRAPDP). This year, it will take place in Goiânia (GO) from September 20th to 22nd with the co-organization of Embrapa and the Federal University of Goiás with the theme “Straw, Environment and Income”. The program, designed especially for rural producers, brings innovative themes such as integrated production systems, precision management, biological control, as well as topics relevant to the cerrado region such as soil profile construction, organic matter in the soil and the effects of nutrition on stress physiology for high soybean and corn yields. There are 21 lectures and 10 mini-courses that will be presented by specialized and renowned professionals in each of the topics.
On September 21st, Tiago Hauagge (agronomist who developed work with cooperatives in Paraná such as COAMO, C.VALE, COPAGRIL, COPACOL and LAR) will present to the public in the lecture “Use of Drones in Agriculture” the different models of drones on the market and camera categories, in addition to work carried out with drones in crops so that farmers can evaluate the use of this technology on their properties. In the interview below, Hauagge explains that drones are accessible to small, medium and large farmers. Check out the interview below:
1 - What are the perceived results and benefits for the farmer when using drones?
Hauagge: In recent times, there are countless benefits perceived by farmers when talking about Drones. We can range from aerial monitoring of cultivation areas to the smallest detail of nutritional problems faced by plants regardless of cultivation and season. By using this tool, you can save time, money and optimize the service on rural properties. An aerial view of your own property linked to terrestrial monitoring becomes an exceptional guide on what must be done to increase your productivity or stop losing that harvest.
2 - How many years has this technology been used in Brazilian crops?
Hauagge: Drones date back several years, since they began to be used in 1890 for military purposes, but their use for agriculture is still recent. The vast majority of Brazilian farmers do not use drones, but those who do use them no longer leave it aside. There are several companies that provide services to producers, but in the very near future, a good portion of Brazilian farmers will have already used drones on their property.
3 - Is it an accessible technology for small and medium-sized producers? Who currently uses it?
Hauagge: Yes, it is an access technology for any type of producer, from small to large. We have several models on the market ranging from small prices to millions of reais. Today this technology is most used by large producers, due to the agility and ease of information generated.
4 - How will you approach the subject at the 15th National Meeting of Direct Planting in Straw? What will be presented to participants?
The subject will be discussed as follows: History of drones; Models available on the market; Camera models for drones; Main uses in agriculture; Work with drones. During the event, a main idea will be passed on how drones can be used in agriculture, the different models of drones found on the market today, the various cameras that can be used in field work and will also influence participants to have their first contact with this type of work, for those who haven't had it yet.
