Brazil currently has 36% of areas cultivated with some type of biological input, which is equivalent to around 84 million hectares. The data, which reinforces the constant growth of the bio-inputs market in the country, was presented by Kynetec agronomist, Cristiano Limberger, during the BioSummit, a biological inputs event that began this Wednesday (28) at the Royal Palm Hall, in Campinas ( SP).

The data presented are the results of a study carried out in 2022 cities, and were collected by around 85 researchers who interviewed 14.500 farmers. According to Limberger, this growth is very positive and signals that the trend is for the use of bio-inputs in Brazilian crops to be consolidated and expanded even further. “According to our study, there is still a lot of potential for growth in its use”, she assesses.

Limberger was one of the panelists on the topic “Bioinputs Market – Numbers, Growth and Perspectives”; which also included the participation of the Colombian researcher on biological pest control, Alba Marina Cotes, and the researcher from the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) Environment, Wagner Bettiol.

Emerging market

The event, which had around 750 registrants on the first day, opened with the theme “The Disruptive World and the Biological Market”, with panelists including the president of Biotrop, Antônio Carlos Zem, and the entrepreneurial endeavor, Rodrigo Iafelice dos Saints. “This is a promising market, which will command an adjacent industry of services, technology, formulation, equipment, market intelligence, communication. We are seeing just the tip of the iceberg of a huge market that will turn into a multibillion-dollar industry. We are going to transform Brazil into the biggest and best biological market in the world”, says Zem.

For Daiana Bisognin Lopes, CEO of FB Group, organizer of the event, BioSummit 2024 exceeded all expectations on its first day. “We managed to mix different audiences at the event – businesspeople, industry, cooperatives, research and teaching institutions, government, mergers and acquisitions companies, investment funds, rural producers, distribution –, with more than 30 types of segments that work with bioinputs. The BioSummit is not just a technical or academic event, it is much more about business, where all sectors can understand a little of what is happening in the market, in regulation, in research”, he details. “We held an event to showcase the strength of bio-inputs, to strengthen and establish Brazil as a major global producer.”

BioSummit 2024 ends this Wednesday (29). In addition to the lectures, participants can have time allocated for networking breaks, business lunches, and presentations of work and cases. As a difference, it offers spaces for business meetings with participants, which can be scheduled on the event website.

Another novelty is the presence of the BioInova Space, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), within the scope of the National Bioinputs Program, which encourages interaction between the academic environment and the market, to promote innovation in the area of biologicals for agriculture. The proposal is to unite entrepreneurs, researchers, companies and institutions to collaborate, create and find solutions that boost sustainable agriculture.
