Research works to identify pest in cowpea plantations
The fly, still unidentified, devoured entire cowpea plantations in southeastern Piauí
UPL presented the nematicide Nimaxxa at the BioAg 2023 World Congress, in Rio de Janeiro, from May 2 to 5.
Nimaxxa uses three bacterial strains as active ingredients: Bacillus paralicheniformis CH2970, Bacillus paralicheniformis CH0273 and Bacillus subtillis CH4000. Together, they act against knock-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita), cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines), lesion nematode (Pratylenchus brachyurus).
The three bacteria work together to form a biofilm around crop roots, preventing infestation by harmful nematodes and protecting farmers' income. Nimaxxa's longer shelf life also ensures ease of handling and reduces farmers' costs.
Nimaxxa is part of the natural input portfolio of Natural Plant Protection (NPP), the business unit focused on biosolutions at UPL. It is compatible with UPL's conventional inputs, allowing farmers to combine the strengths of conventional and natural inputs as part of UPL's ProNutiva approach.
Mike Frank, CEO of UPL Corporation Ltd., stated: "The biosolutions sector is one of the most exciting innovations in agricultural inputs. By synergizing these inputs with conventional approaches, we can sustainably benefit farmers by increasing revenues and reducing costs , while minimizing environmental impacts. Latin America, and Brazil in particular, is at the forefront of agricultural innovation, we are proud to introduce NPP's latest inputs and developments to this crucial consumer base."
Rogério Castro, CEO of UPL Brasil, stated: "For us, the BioAg World Congress was a great opportunity to honor our OpenAg commitment to collaboration, joining with other stakeholders in our sector to discuss opportunities, challenges and solutions in the products sector "Nematodes are one of the biggest challenges, threatening to cause significant crop losses. Biosolutions like Nimaxxa that combat these threats are therefore essential for farmer resilience, national economies and sustainability."
The BioAg World Congress brought together the latest knowledge and experience from around the world to advance the bioinput ecosystem. The UPL stand at the congress was dedicated to the presentation of NPP and its portfolio of biosolutions and biocontrol products.
