The Union of Federal Agricultural Tax Auditors (ANFFA Sindical) will act as amicus curiae in a Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (ADI) filed with the Federal Supreme Court to declare unconstitutional a law sanctioned by the previous government that allows agricultural inspection through self-control throughout the country, the called the Law of Self-Control.
The action aims to preserve agricultural inspection, in favor of the safety and quality of agricultural inputs and food consumed by the Brazilian population and exported. The Union intends, with this, to guarantee instruments for the exercise of administrative police power throughout the chain regulated by agricultural defense.
“This law could bring countless harm to society as a whole. It is an aberration for the sector to monitor itself, there is no logic in this process. Inspection involves the production of medicines, meat, eggs and dairy products, for example, which directly impacts people's health. We need to stop this nonsense as soon as possible”, explains Rogério Ferreira, Director of Legal Affairs at ANFFA Sindical.
Entering the process as amicus curiae (friend of the court), ANFFA becomes a third member that assists in the progress of the procedures by providing subsidies to the judging body.
