In the main grain producing regions of Brazil, farmers are racing against time to reconcile the soybean harvest with the preparation for planting corn. With the delay at the end of last year in the sowing of the oilseed, this harvest the producer will have a smaller window to prepare the off-season. To avoid losses, you will need to be highly efficient and assertive in this planting.

For producers who have seeds stored on their property, it's time to think about discs and rings for planting. According to Wellington Casati, Sales Coordinator at J.Assy, it is recommended that farmers who are not going to plant in the next few days and have already received the seed, take a sample of the batch to an agricultural implements retailer and make the correct choice of disc and ring .

Many producers do not pay attention to discs and rings, but they are responsible for the uniform and efficient distribution of seeds in the soil. J.Assy offers Apollo discs to the market, with the exclusive RampFlow technology, which consists of a ramp with small grooves in each hole, which facilitate the sliding of seeds and reduce friction and breakage inside the doser.

According to Wellington, J.Assy's technologies are developed to increase planting profitability. “Our discs are made of a very resistant material, which does not cause abrasion and when fitted to the ring, they do not bend or warp. Our Titanium doser, which exclusively uses Apollo discs, has an organizer system that guarantees ideal flow, without mechanical damage to the seeds, making distribution even more precise”, he highlights.

Currently, J.Assy is the only company that has 20 different disc sizes, which fit all seeds sold on the market. There are several options, due to the number of sieves that the seedbeds have available. “We have discs with round holes and oblong holes, to suit all types of seeds. To this day, we haven't found a type that doesn't fit on the records. This is one of the differentiators of our company”, says Wellington.

Correctly choosing discs and rings

A fundamental tip for choosing discs and rings is to have the seed you want to plant on hand. It is important to take a sample to the dealership and carry out the test. The first step is to fill the holes in the disc with seeds and when lifting it, if they all fell out, the size is probably good. However, also observe that two seeds do not occupy the same hole.

Associated with the discs, the rings are also important for planting success, as they are essential for defining the height of the seed. “If the seed is overlapping the disc, passing through the holes, the organizer that removes the excess seed from the doser, in the conventional mechanical system, breaks this seed, or removes it from the hole”, highlights Casati.

The producer must also look at the height of the seed and adjust according to each ring. “For this, there are also 5 ring sizes, which can be used in conventional mechanical dosers and the Titanium doser. The smooth one is 1mm deep, the 1,6mm, 2.mm and the 2,5mm”, concludes the J.Assy professional.
