TMG - Tropical Melhoramento e Genética, a Brazilian company providing genetic solutions for cotton, soybeans and corn, has achieved leadership in the cotton growing market. According to Spark's BIP Algodão survey, carried out annually, the company holds almost 44% of the market share.
According to Francisco Soares, president of TMG, the company is the only one to have all the technologies on the market. "This is a big difference, our purpose is to offer the best and most modern to collaborate with the producer, and, consequently, with Brazilian and global agriculture. Market leadership shows that we are on the right path and we are honored with the results of the research", he celebrates.
In addition to being a leader in cotton, TMG cultivates TMG44B2RF, which won the position of the most planted variety in the 2020/21 harvest, for the second year in a row. The cultivar represented 28% of the Brazilian market share, and the study also highlighted the seed's leadership in Mato Grosso (28%) and Bahia (32%), the main producing states in the country.
The TMG44B2RF has been on the market since the 2017/18 harvest and was developed with the best technologies and characteristics requested by cotton farmers, including fiber quality, high productivity and tolerance to ramularia. In some areas of Bahia, seed productivity reached 457,2 arrobas per hectare (@/ha), in an area of 291 ha, in the 20/21 harvest.
Another three of the company's varieties are listed in the survey among the 10 most planted in the 2020/21 harvest. They are: TMG47B2RF (5%), TMG31B3RF (3%) and TMG81WS (3%).
"TMG is 100% Brazilian and has stood out in the cotton market through consistent work carried out over the last two decades. The recognition of the cultivar and the leadership of the cotton market is another big step towards our goal: to be a leader in the main crops Brazilians", points out Soares.
Currently, TMG's portfolio for the 2021/22 harvest has six new cultivars, in addition to the already consolidated TMG44B2RF, TMG47B2RF and TMG81WS. The launches are: TMG30B3RF, TMG31B3RF, TMG21GLTP, TMG22GLTP, TMG50WS3 and TMG91WS3, all resistant to herbicides and caterpillars.
