The Carazinho region, in Rio Grande do Sul, will host an edition of the Dermacor Rally between the 12th and 14th of December. The series of automobile races is an initiative of the company DuPont Crop Protection in partnership with resellers, seed companies and agricultural cooperatives. The objective of the circuit is to provide the soybean production chain with information about the benefits transferred by the practice of seed treatment to the final result of crop productivity and profitability.
The Carazinho event has the support of the Cotrijal and Cotrisal cooperatives and the companies Sementes Roos and 3Tentos. According to DuPont, each event in the series involves a regularity test interspersed with an agenda of thematic debates, with an emphasis on the treatment of oilseed seeds. The races are planned for 30 to 40 cars occupied by a driver and navigator, usually soybean farmers and agronomists. The pair that makes the fewest errors in meeting the hourly averages defined by the race director wins. The name given to the rally is an allusion to the seed treatment insecticide Dermacor, developed and distributed by DuPont.
DuPont's marketing manager for Seed Treatment, Érico Cardoso, explains that along the route, competitors make “pit stops” at five themed stations, prepared to host exhibitions and debates around the benefits of soybean seed treatment.
“These are demonstration fields that reveal the differences in treatment with Dermacor in the management of pests in soybean seeds and seedlings”, summarizes the executive. “The thematic rally allows DuPont and its partners to demonstrate how the association between Dermacor technology and Bt soybeans results in more efficient control of foliar and soil pests of the crop, contributing to an increase in productivity of two bags per hectare , on average”, he exemplifies.
“At the stations we also address the main pests that affect soybeans in each region of the rally, in addition to the effects of Dermacor on the uniformity of the soybean crop stand”, continues Érico Cardoso. According to him, the route of each test also includes a visit to a unit dedicated to the industrial treatment of soybean seeds.
DuPont highlights that the Dermacor seed treatment insecticide is considered one of the great innovations recently introduced in global agriculture. The product, says the company, was the first of the revolutionary Anthranilic Diamides chemical class launched in Brazil for seed treatment. “Dermacor provides a prolonged residual effect and is highly selective to the natural enemies of pests”, concludes Érico Cardoso.
