Boosting the participation of the low-carbon economy in the Brazilian production matrix is the goal of the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Innovation in the Bioeconomy (FPBioeconomia), relaunched on Wednesday (03/05) in the Main Hall of the National Congress. It will be chaired by deputy Evair de Melo (PP-ES) and has the support of the Brazilian Bioinnovation Association (ABBI). The objective of its creation is to debate public policies to consolidate Brazil as a leader and global reference on the subject.
Alongside representatives from the private sector, Federal Government, academia and society, the general head of Embrapa Agroenergia, Alexandre Alonso, participated in the ceremony representing the Company's president, Silvia Massruhá.
“The bioeconomy is a great opportunity for the country, which has been taking advantage of it since the 1970s, when it made the decision to transform its agriculture through science - when it created Embrapa 50 years ago, completed last week”, declared Alonso.
In his speech, Alonso stated that our agriculture is going through a new wave of sustainability, and he has no doubt, it will continue to be the engine of the national bioeconomy, along with our enormous and rich biodiversity.
For him, biotechnology together with bioinnovation, represented at the Front by ABBI, will allow us to consciously and sustainably explore our biodiversity, at the same time that it will allow us to produce, with a minimum carbon footprint, increasingly more biomass per unit area and time, allowing the country to reindustrialize in a green way, through the development of new agro- and bio-industries.
According to him, it was from this investment in science and technology in agriculture that the country produced biomass in quantity and quality to meet its own demands. Alonso also recalled that Brazil took the decision to implement a robust biofuels program, which is now being renewed by Renovabio. “It was at this moment that the country effectively became part of the bioeconomy, producing food, fiber and bioenergy in quantity and quality, not only to meet our internal demands, but also became a major exporter, making biotechnology a reality in the country. ", continued.
For the manager, the future of bioeconomy development invariably passes through agriculture and science. “Embrapa is ready to continue developing new and innovative technologies, so that the country can continue developing the bioeconomy and effectively become a major power in the green economy”, he concluded.
ABBI's executive president, Thiago Falda, who has participated in the front's work since the beginning, said that the motivation for creation is increasingly evident. Globally, the agendas of the main economies are adapting and the bioeconomy is emerging with viable solutions to make a change in the industrial paradigm and continue sustainable economic growth. “Brazil’s comparative advantages allow the bioeconomy to be the first industrial leap that the country can take”, declared Falda to representatives of the different sectors present at the event.
