Anvisa published a technical note with guidance on the procedures to be adopted for registering phytochemical products as pesticides.
Phytochemical products are those whose ingredients are obtained exclusively from vegetable raw materials. They can be used as an option in integrated pest management and favor the development of agricultural production with more sustainable and lower-risk means of control.
Anvisa, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) and the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Resources (Ibama) are developing a specific standard that will regulate the registration of these products in the country.
While the standard is not published, companies should check the guidelines published in the technical note. The document was prepared based on the most recurring doubts in the regulated sector and the gaps that currently exist when it comes to herbal products.
The document can be read here.
