Professor Sérgio Florentino Pascholati, from the Department of Phytopathology and Nematology (LFN), at the “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture (USP/ESALQ), received the "2016 College of Agriculture Distinguished Agriculture Alumni" award, given to graduates of the School of Agriculture from Purdue University in recognition of his professional career.

The Distinguished Agriculture Alumni Award was created in 1992 to honor professionals who graduated from the Purdue University School of Agriculture, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, United States, and are still working. Honorees must have demonstrated significant contributions to their profession and society as a whole, in addition to exhibiting high potential for future professional growth. The selection of honorees is made by a committee composed of the Director of the School of Agriculture, associate deans, associate director, department heads and unit directors. Professor Sergio Pascholati was nominated by Professor Tesfaye Mengiste, from the area of ​​botany and phytopathology. Typically, ten or fewer alumni are selected to receive this award annually. The Class of 2016 awards ceremony will take place during a special session held on March 4, at the North American university.

Pascholati has a degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP - (1976), a Master's degree in Functional and Molecular Biology from the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP - (1980) and a PhD in Botany and Plant Pathology - Purdue University, USA (1983). He holds a Post-Doctorate in Phytopathological Physiology/Biochemistry at Purdue University (1991-1992) and specialization in the same area at the Technical University of Munich, Germany (1984). He is currently a full professor at the Department of Phytopathology and Nematology at ESALQ. He held the role of head of the Department, President of the Postgraduate Committee and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Phytopathology at ESALQ. He was President of the Latin American Phytopathology Association, Brazilian Phytopathology Society and Director of the São Paulo Phytopathology Group. He has experience in the area of ​​Agronomy, with an emphasis on Phytopathology, working mainly on the following topics: phytopathological physiology and biochemistry, resistance induction and biological control of phytopathogens.
