TCP moves 195 thousand tons in year of resumption of cabotage

The flow of departures was more than double that of arrivals

Cabotage operations, as coastal navigation between ports in the same country is known, for the transport of containers returned to make stops at TCP, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal, at the beginning of 2024. Since then, this service has been used increasingly by small and large businesses in Paraná and neighboring states.

With an initial movement of 367 TEUs (unit equivalent to a 20-foot container) in January 2024, operations at the Terminal grew month after month until reaching a maximum of 2.547 TEUs in May.

“During the first five months of 2024, we have been monitoring the resumption of cabotage at TCP and the gradual adaptation of our customers. The integration of this sustainable, reliable and cost-competitive logistics solution demonstrates the success of this partnership,” explains Carolina Merkle Brown, TCP’s commercial manager for shipowners and market intelligence.

By the end of the year, a total of 16.426 TEUs were handled by TCP in cabotage operations, a volume equivalent to 195 thousand tons in full loads.

The flow of shipments to other states was more than double the amount of landings, with emphasis on the paper and pulp and frozen meat segments, with 76 thousand tons and 9 thousand tons exported, respectively. In imports, the consumer goods segment came out on top, with 6 thousand tons unloaded.

Another highlight of cabotage is the volume of cargo in the logistics operator segment, which represented 46% of the cargo handled.

“In this segment, we have a large number of customers looking for a door-to-door transport solution, in which the logistics operator is responsible for moving the cargo from its origin to its final destination, ensuring greater convenience and security for sending and receiving shipments,” comments Carolina.

In total, the Terminal received 64 ships at its dock in cabotage operations, which represents more than one docking per week throughout the year.

“With a weekly frequency of dockings, TCP’s cabotage operations provide punctuality and operational capacity so that exporters can efficiently meet importers’ deadlines, in the same way that industries and businesses in Paraná and neighboring states can receive inputs and products quickly and safely,” he adds.
