The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) carried out, from August 15th to 19th, a seed inspection task force in the state of Mato Grosso. The action sought to intensify the inspection of seeds of tropical forage species, with the aim of curbing irregularities and contributing to guaranteeing the minimum standards of identity and quality established by Mapa.

In total, 29 establishments and four technical managers were inspected, resulting in 18 fines. As precautionary measures, the sale of 2.650,4 tons of seeds was suspended and four establishments were closed.

The inspections took place in establishments that produce, process, store and repack seeds of tropical forage species, in the regions of Cuiabá, Primavera do Leste, Rondonópolis and Médio Norte (Nova Mutum to Colider).

Production, trade, export and import of seeds and seedlings are governed by Law 10.711/03, which established the National Seed and Seedling System, regulated by Decree 10.586/2020.

In addition to inspection, the task force is an opportunity to exchange experiences between Mapa inspection employees from different states and to harmonize tax procedures.

“The objectives of the action were achieved and the team involved assessed the results as satisfactory. The experience brought lessons that will be taken to the next actions, as the task forces have proven to be a promising approach to monitoring agricultural inputs and tend to be replicated”, reports the head of the Seeds Division, Bruno Roncisvale.

Federal agricultural tax auditors and agricultural activity agents from Bahia, the Federal District, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Sergipe, Santa Catarina and São Paulo participated in the action.
