Syngenta Group Announces Independent Director to Board

Syngenta Group has announced the election of Alf Barrios (pictured) as a new independent director of the Board of Directors, effective February 14, 2025. The decision was made during the company’s General Shareholders’ Meeting. In addition to the new position, Barrios will also join the Compensation and Audit Committees.

With over 35 years of experience in the natural resources and energy sectors, Barrios served as Chief Commercial Officer at Rio Tinto and led operations in China and Japan. Prior to that, he had a long career at BP, where he held strategic roles in global markets.

For Syngenta Group Chairman Li Fanrong, Barrios’ experience in managing global value chains will be essential to strengthening the company’s agronomic and digital solutions. The new director highlighted his satisfaction in joining one of the world’s leading agricultural innovation groups and contributing to the expansion of the business.
