Syngenta and IICA come together to boost agricultural innovation in the Americas

Syngenta and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have come together to develop sustainable actions focused on increasing field productivity. The objective is to assist farmers with sustainable technologies that guarantee food security in Latin America and the Caribbean. Leading the partnership are José Antonio Ysambert, Syngenta's Head of Sustainable Business for North Latin America, and the General Director of IICA, Manuel Otero.

The synergy aims to strengthen the production of agricultural technologies for crop protection and seed treatment; expand solutions in digital and precision agriculture; and create projects that promote the sustainability of food production, through intelligent soil and water management. In-person and virtual training is also planned to train and professionalize farmers, encouraging conscious crop management, in addition to offering courses related to the Central American Program for Comprehensive Coffee Rust Management (PROCAGICA), implemented by the European Union and IICA.

"Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, together with industry and cooperative organizations, must work together to promote the development of agriculture 4.0, ensuring the well-being of professionals who strive to deliver food and nutritional security for the entire population ", states Manuel Otero, General Director of IICA.

The company is one of the sponsors of an ongoing hackathon to develop technological solutions and thus expand the agri-food chain in Ecuador. Registration is open until July 24th and can be done via link. In addition to Syngenta, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador, IICA, Cenfotec University and Club AgTech are leading the organization of the project.
