La Niña confirmed by NOAA in 2025
The phenomenon is expected to last until February 2026 and alter rainfall patterns in Brazil.
The National Symposium on Agricultural Instrumentation (Siagro), which will be held from the 14th to the 16th in São Carlos, São Paulo, will bring new developments in seven research topics at the forefront of knowledge. Promoted by Embrapa Instrumentation, the event will showcase 21 technological assets with field demonstrations, involving applications in various Brazilian agricultural production chains. These include technological solutions for cotton, soybeans, and corn, among others.
Siagro's objective is to discuss and propose ways for agricultural instrumentation to contribute to the resilience and adaptation of Brazilian agriculture to abiotic (nutritional deficiencies and lack of water, for example) and biotic (fungi, bacteria and viruses) stresses resulting from climate change, strengthening the integration between science, technology, innovation and the market.
Among the new developments that will be demonstrated are controlled-release fertilizers, formulations for bioinputs, an innovative method for estimating soil density and carbon, a drone route optimizer for unmanned aerial application of biological agents, and assets available for transfer or development to the private sector.
With the participation, entirely in person, of researchers, professors, students, businesspeople, rural producers and investors, the event, which received 199 scientific papers signed by 793 authors and co-authors, from 125 institutions in Brazil, will feature seven thematic panels, with 13 national and international lectures.
Research involving precision and digital agriculture, nanotechnology, and climate change management stood out in terms of the number of papers submitted to this edition of the Symposium. These three themes accounted for 145 of the 199 accepted studies.
Increasingly occupying spaces on global agendas, discussions on climate change, food security and society open the first panel on Tuesday, the 14th, with the researcher from Embrapa Instrumentation, Silvio Crestana, and the professor from the Institute of Geosciences at the University of São Paulo (USP), Ricardo César Aoki Hirata.
Siagro 2025 will also feature Ambassador Rubens Ricupero, who will deliver an online presentation on "Geopolitics, Science, and Agriculture." The lecture will be held on Wednesday, the 15th, at 11:15 a.m., during Business Day.
At the end of the National Symposium on Agricultural Instrumentation (Siagro), a document of recommendations will be prepared aimed at the teaching, research, production and agro-industry sectors, indicating guidelines for the advancement of agricultural instrumentation in the face of climate change.
Other expected outcomes of the event include providing technical and scientific support for Brazil's strategic positioning in international forums, especially COP-30 and the G20; strengthening cooperation networks between public institutions, companies, and investors; and improving Embrapa's R&D&I guidelines, aligned with emerging sustainability and climate adaptation demands.
