Sustainable ships, known as green ships, have priority in Paraná ports. The measure is part of the Ship Programming, Operations and Docking regulations – 2023 Edition, and will benefit vessels with energy matrix structures focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, explains that priority docking grants preferential berths, regardless of the chronological order of arrival. “The rule was defined seeking to retain sustainable ships in Paranaguá, following our objective of leading issues related to sustainability and environmental processes”, emphasized Garcia.

According to the Director of Environment, João Paulo Santana, the implementation of this measure is important precisely to reinforce the public company's commitment to the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development objectives, especially in the port sector. “In addition to seeking the decarbonization of ports in Paraná, we are encouraging more and more ecological ships to go to the State of Paraná”, reinforced Santana.

The operations director of Portos do Paraná, Gabriel Vieira, states that the measure seeks to encourage companies to invest in reducing CO2 emissions. “This change in regulations has brought agility to the operation of sustainable ships, attracting more and more green ships to ports in Paraná”, emphasized Vieira.

Other sustainable actions by Portos do Paraná

Currently, Portos do Paraná is the only port to be invited to the annual event held by the United Nations on climate change, the COP (Conference of the Parties). Furthermore, Portos do Paraná signed a partnership with the Port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, to establish the development of renewable energy in the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding, in 2023, is part of the Green Ports Partnership collaboration program, which lasts three years. Portos do Paraná is also the only Public Port with Ecoports certification, an international reference in the area of port environmental management.
