Sugarcane productivity remains below average, says CTC
Raw material quality (ATR) is higher than that recorded in the same period of the last harvest
Characterized by the search for profitability in the productive agricultural system with maximum expression of genetic and environmental potential, the Direct Planting System (SPD) has been gaining more and more strength in crops. The sowing technique consists of placing the seed in the undisturbed soil using special seeders and without prior plowing or light leveling harrowing.
During the week in which National Direct Planting Day is celebrated (October 23), the Faesc/Senar System (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Santa Catarina and National Rural Learning Service) reinforces the importance of the method. “Direct planting is an agricultural practice that offers several advantages to the producer and the environment, as it preserves the soil with differentiated management, controls erosion, reduces the use of inputs and increases productivity”, highlights the president of the Faesc/Senar System, José Zeferino Pedrozo (in the photo), commenting on the importance of the date that celebrates this innovative initiative for the second time.
The Faesc/Senar System encourages this practice and, with the work of field technicians from Technical and Management Assistance (ATeG), guides producers on its use in various production chains. “We have observed, especially during Field Days held throughout the year, the advances that the Direct Planting System has brought to Santa Catarina properties, both in reducing the use of pesticides and in improving water conservation, carbon sequestration and producers’ income,” says Pedrozo.
For the president, ensuring soil care is essential and, therefore, in addition to encouraging and training producers to adopt the Direct Planting System and other initiatives aimed at soil care, the entity is a partner in actions and events with the same purpose. “We continue working with the commitment to preserve natural resources, generate income and contribute to driving sustainability in agribusiness”.
The date was established by Law No. 14.609 of June 20, 2023, authored by federal deputy from Rio Grande do Sul Afonso Hamm (PP), and refers to the first direct planting of a crop in Brazil, in 1972.
The initiative took place at the Rhenânia farm, in the municipality of Rolândia, Paraná, and was pioneered by Herbert Bartz. The commemorative date was a cause sponsored by FebraPDP (Brazilian Federation of the Direct Planting System), an entity that brings together scholars and rural producers of this system.
